Scientific and Financial oversight of the Children’s Discovery Institute resides in two boards.

The Scientific Advisory Board, comprised of internationally recognized science leaders, oversees research initiatives and direction through review and recommendation of grant awards.

Financial oversight is provided by a Board of Managers drawn from senior leadership in finance, management, and research at Washington University, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, the community, and beyond. This board approves proposed allocation of funds.

Alan L. Schwartz, MD, PhD, is the Executive Director of the Children’s Discovery Institute. Dr. Schwartz is the Harriet B. Spoehrer Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics; Professor of Biology; and Pediatrician-In-Chief, St Louis Children's Hospital.

Mary C. Dinauer, MD, PhD is the Scientific Director of the Children's Discovery Institute. Dr. Dinauer is also the Fred M. Saigh Distinguished Chair in Pediatric Research at St. Louis Children's Hospital and Professor of Pediatrics, Pathology, and Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine.

“The exceptional interest and dedication shown by the members of our boards is matched by that of our researchers and generous supporters. Every individual within the Children’s Discovery Institute community is a partner dedicated to producing the discoveries that will change pediatric medicine.”
A. L. Schwartz, Ph.D., M.D.
