Dr. Duncan is a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine specialist whose research focuses on the pathogenesis of congenital heart disease. Her postdoctoral research has utilized novel mouse models of heart disease to understand the role of mitochondrial metabolism in heart failure. This project involves developing a model of cardiac mitochondrial development and function in the fruit fly and collaborating with other investigators to dissect the role of altered mitochondrial metabolism in cardiac disease. This work will provide a critical bridge between the rapid gains in genetic technology and the clinical need to answer biologically relevant questions in children with congenital heart disease.
