  CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE CENTER

Overview

Congenital heart defects affect more than 25,000 infants born each year in the United States Heart disease is the leading cause of death in newborns. These heart defects often require multiple surgeries, a lifetime of medications and various preventive measures to keep the heart working. For some patients, their only hope is a heart transplant — but often there are not enough donated organs available for transplant.

The Congenital Heart Disease Center is intended to change the future of congenital heart disease within the next decade. Focused on improvements in diagnosis, treatment and prevention, research from this Center in tissue regeneration, nutrition and human genomics is providing breathtaking new approaches for the cure of these now fatal defects.
